It's official.
Nerang has an Under14 and an Under16 Girls team.
Monday March 15th, Nerang U16 v Beaudesert
An 'A Grade' Demolition. Thiis is the only way to describe the way our Under 16 Girls team took apart their opposition from Beaudesert on Monday night. Our girls never relaxed and kept the pressure on Beaudesert the entire match. The only saving grace for Beaudesert was the fact that even though the score blew out to 10-0, our girld also missed a few shots that went 'over the top' or just to the side of the net. The 'radar' was working but there is still a little 'fine tuning' to do. Thank you to (U14) Kirstie Donnelly for her help in goal in the second half. By far the best passage of play during the evening was the super ball from NICOLA, bending the ball around 2 defenders to TAHNEE who, using her left foot struck the ball neatly past the Beaudesert Goal Keeper. 'NAN', had her hands full just trying to keep track of the onslaught of goals, from this very determined team. GOAL SCORERS: Brodie Cartwright (2), Rochelle Hattam (2), Kimberly Delgado (3) and Tahnee hoekstra (3), our first 'hat tricks' for the season.
Tuesday March 16th, NERANG UNDER 14's v MUSGRAVE
What a great hit out. Musgrave asked us for a 'friendly' and it was the first time that we had an entire squad together on the same field. 14 girls took part in the game with our 15th member sidelined with an injury. It took Musgrave nearly 20mins to open their score sheet, due to the fantastic defensive effort that our girls displayed. ROMY took a hard knock before half time but was eager to get back on the field. Still trying to feel their way as a team, some great passes were strung together and we had Musgrave on the back foot a couple of times. At half time a goalkeeper change saw KIRSTIE brought onto the field and ALANA drop back into the goal. Things started to look bleak when Musgrave ran in 2 quick goals, but to the credit of the team they kept tackling, passing and chasing each and every ball. 2 nice runs resulting in 2 fine goals from ANN and ROMY saw the score 3-2, but Musgrave hit back with a blistering 4th to finish the game. ANN was also unlucky not to have added a second goal to her tally, being ruled offside after finding the back of the net. I can't wait until we have had as much time together, or can field as many rep. players as Musgrave have had!
WEDNESDAY MARCH 17TH: Q.I.S Womens Team v Gold Coast Under 15 Boys
Anyone who wanted to see quality football had only to travel to Nerang on Wednesday night to see soccer played at its highest level. The Queensland Institute of Sport Womens Team was something to behold. Each and every player in the squad except for about 3 players has represented this country at national level at one time or another, and it showed. The 'boys' eventually won the night firing in some great goals, but the score didn't really reflect the standard of the game due to the fact that the Ladies didn't have a goalkeeper. Their goalkeeper was a last minute recruitement from the field player ranks due to an unfortunate accident that has left them without a 'keeper'. It was also great to see these Ladies stay back and sign autographs for the many young girls who watched the match. With the girls 'moving' to soccer in bigger numbers than ever before, more should be done to attract these types of matches. A great night.
